Caution - Don't get Wanked when you Wank

You should approach buying ANYTHING on the web with a bit of caution, but especially adult products.

Unscrupulous people use fake and real websites to distribute computer virus, load tracking cookies on your computer, and, of course, try to trick you into providing unnecessary financial information.  Because websites are not regulated worldwide, many of these website continue to exist.  This problem seems more prevalent among adult oriented sites, possibly because many surfers with a boner follow link after link in a somewhat oblivious manner - hey, we've all done it.

There are a few best practices for not getting ripped off while surfing  paying for Adult videos online.

  1. Keep your Security Software up-to-date.  Many security products and even the web browsers themselves are adding anti-phishing components that let you know when you are on a suspect site.

  2. Look for signs of security. When you reach the point of payment or of sharing your personal information, the Web site should be secure. The address of a secure site contains an “s” after the “http:”, like so: “https:”. Internet browsers also display an icon such as a gold padlock to verify that the site is secure.

  3. Many reputable websites use one of several credit card processing agents, like CCBill or Epoch PaymentsThese Internet Billing Support companies provides customer service for thousands of websites 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  They handle the whole financial transaction, so the website does not even have your credit card number.   PayPal does not knowingly accept transactions for adult-oriented items.  So if a website offers PayPal payment, beware.

  4. Know your seller's reputation - Easy when you are buying something from Target online, but not so easy when it is from HotHairyMuscularRomanticGuys.com or even HotBears.com for that matter!    We recommend that you Google the website to see if there are any complaints posted on the Internet.

  5. Don’t respond to unsolicited e-mails. Did you ever get an e-mail message that appears to be from PayPal or another legitimate-looking outfit, asking you to click on a Web link and update your account information? Never, ever do that! This is one of the biggest online scams around.

  6. Read the fine print. If you are buy a package of minutes or a monthly website membership, check to see if the package or membership will re-bill automatically at the end of the term of service.   If it is OK with you for the site to rebill, then make sure you know how to cancel the agreement when you want to.

  7. Mystery Charges.  If you see any charges on your credit card that you do not understand, immediately check with your credit card provider.  These often get cleared up faster with the involvement of the credit card company.
